Cannot access files in shares over NFS
Hi
I'm trying to access my the shares on my ReadyNAS 104 from my media player (Popcorn Hour). Both are connected via a Netgear WNDR3700 and the network setup is fine. I can also access the files in the shares with SMB without any problems. I've actually tried this with three different media players so I'm pretty sure that the problem does not lie on that side!
Strangely, I can navigate to the NFS Server (the NAS box) and see the shares. I can even click on one of the shares and see the video files in there but they fail to play. The files themselves are fine - they play ok over SMB.
I've tried a few things such as creating a new share with NFS only and opening the security as much as I can. I'm not applying any security from the media player side - I don;t know if I need to?
In case it makes any difference, I am using JBOD and not RAID so I am creating shares on each of the disks.
Any advice appreciated -thanks!!

Would there be anything in the logs about the ReadyNAS preventing access? I can access the logs but unfortunately cannot interpret them. I've shared them here in case anyone is interested -https://www.dropbox.com/l/chYHY0y4PiW35yaZGQk1On
Or I could forward them to your mailbox if you think that is the right way to go?
Thanks - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI don't think you need anything set on hosts. So I am thinking you remove 10.0.0.13 and try one more time.

OK I'll try that but this is basically setting it back to what it was so I doubt that it would work. Thanks though. - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
Are you saying that you tried it with nothing set in hosts at all? If so, I didn't see that in your earlier posts.Deano wrote: OK I'll try that but this is basically setting it back to what it was so I doubt that it would work. Thanks though. - Deano1Aspirant

Ah, sorry Stephen - I obviously misunderstood your last post. Yes, I'll try removing the explicit access to 10.0.0.9 and also leave the AnyHost blank as well. - Deano1AspirantJust an update on this guys - after lots of testing and going round in circles I finally found the route cause. In short, I was sure that the issue was with the ReadyNAS because I could not play the files in the NFS shares on two different Popcorn Hours. I ended up bringing the ReadyNAS into work to let a Linux expert look at it and lo and behold, it worked fine.
So, what else could it be? Both of the Popcorn Hours and the ReadyNAS were connected through a Netgear WNDR3700 router\switch, so I just got myself a basic ZyXEL 10/100 switch, set everything to static IP and connected everything to it. It all worked fine!!
Now the hunt begins - what the hell can be causing this on the router!! - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIs the firmware on your router up to date?

Yep, bang up to date - don;t worry, I'll need to chase this one up on the Netgear router forum 8)
Thanks for your suggestions though guys - much appreciated - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThe router theory is a bit odd, in that the router has no idea if you are using NFS or SMB. The ethernet LAN side of the router is a simple ethernet switch.
Perhaps connect the ZyXel to the router, and try DHCP for the IP addresses, and see what happens.
Do you have jumbo frames enabled? - Deano1AspirantYes, it is very odd indeed but I can confirm that with the PCH and ReadyNAS connected through the ZyXEL switch, the media files play fine but when they are connected through the Netgear router, they do not. DHCP or static IP doesn't seem to have an impact either.
I'm not sure about jumbo frames to be honest - I searched through the manuals for both the NAS and the router but could find no mention. Which device is this for?
I did post this issue on the Netgear router forum and mdgm did ask the question about NFS thread count on the ReadyNAS. I did find that it is set to the default (8) in case this may have any impact?
Thanks
