Cannot access files in shares over NFS
Hi
I'm trying to access my the shares on my ReadyNAS 104 from my media player (Popcorn Hour). Both are connected via a Netgear WNDR3700 and the network setup is fine. I can also access the files in the shares with SMB without any problems. I've actually tried this with three different media players so I'm pretty sure that the problem does not lie on that side!
Strangely, I can navigate to the NFS Server (the NAS box) and see the shares. I can even click on one of the shares and see the video files in there but they fail to play. The files themselves are fine - they play ok over SMB.
I've tried a few things such as creating a new share with NFS only and opening the security as much as I can. I'm not applying any security from the media player side - I don;t know if I need to?
In case it makes any difference, I am using JBOD and not RAID so I am creating shares on each of the disks.
Any advice appreciated -thanks!!

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserTry using admin credentials for the NAS in the PCH.
- vandermerweMasterWhen the media player plays a file using nfs, do you need to set the path to the relevant folder somewhere in the settings?
I need to do this with my Dune. The new readynas units on os6 require you to put the volume name in the path, whereas with OS 4 this was not required. - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
I figured that because he could see the files he must have gotten past this.vandermerwe wrote: When the media player plays a file using nfs, do you need to set the path to the relevant folder somewhere in the settings?

But of course you are correct, and in my opinion it is a nuisance to have to include the volume name. - Deano1Aspirant

Thanks for the reply Stephen. Yes - I tried using the admin credentials that I use to connect to the web portal. I'm not sure if this is right or not or if I'm supposed to use root or something. Is there a default password for the root account?
I even setup a dedicated account called 'pch' and gave it explicit access to a share. Unfortunately this didn't work either.
Is there a way to leave the NFS share completely wide open and have no security? It's nothing at all that I am concerned about. - vandermerweMasterWhen you play the files, you are trying to play them after browsing to them or are you using a media library app on the PCH to play the files?
What have you put as the "share folder" when you setup the nas share on the PCH? - Deano1Aspirant

I'm simply browsing on the PCH, no apps are in use. When I try to add a share on the PCH, I use one of the share names that I have setup on the ReadyNAS. So, "Movie1/Movie1", "Data/TV", etc. The image below is from the PCH browsing to the NFS share. I'll add some screenshots of the ReadyNAS setup - this might make it clearer what I've done.
BTW - do you know Heinke? I've seen him play many times for Leinster
The strange thing that I do not understand is that I can open each of these shares and see the files (1080p mkv files) but they simply fail to play. They work fine with SMB. - vandermerweMasterWhen you set up the share on the PCH, I notice that the path for your Movie1 and Movie2 has a folder and sub folder with the same name.
1. Why?
2. Is the full path just not visible or is there a data/Movie1/Movie1 full path somewhere?
3. Where are the movies that won't play, are they in Movie1 or Movie2?
Have you tried setting your library up with unique folder and subfolders.
Although default access is to all network clients, perhaps set the PCH IP address in the nfs network settings on the nas.

Unfortunately yes - I need to get the PCH to mount the drives and this has to be done with NFS. The reason is to get the movie jukebox to work with the PCH. Basically, this scans all local drives and builds a jukebox using IMDB. So, by adding a line to a file it will mount the NFS share and the jukebox will work. The PCH is Linux (it looks like you guys probably know this though!!). - Deano1Aspirant

1. It wasn't by design really. I have a USB HDD enclosure attached to the PCH and the disks are names "Movie1", "Movie2", etc. I was just following the same format to be honest. I setup the ReadyNAS with no RAID and the first disk was left as "Data". I then added a 2nd disk as "Movie1". I then setup a folder with the name "Movie1" and started adding files. I didn't know that the name of the disk was actually important (I guess that it is with NFS!)
2. There is no Movie1 on the Data disk.
3. They are in both. All of the shares below have video files in them. I can't play any of them vis NFS - same problem in that I can see them but they fail to play.
I hadn't tried your other two suggestions to be honest so it's definitely something that I will try.
I'll get some screenshots up in a short while to show you guys the setup of the ReadyNAS. Thanks for your feedback - much appreciated.
