Cannot access files in shares over NFS
Hi
I'm trying to access my the shares on my ReadyNAS 104 from my media player (Popcorn Hour). Both are connected via a Netgear WNDR3700 and the network setup is fine. I can also access the files in the shares with SMB without any problems. I've actually tried this with three different media players so I'm pretty sure that the problem does not lie on that side!
Strangely, I can navigate to the NFS Server (the NAS box) and see the shares. I can even click on one of the shares and see the video files in there but they fail to play. The files themselves are fine - they play ok over SMB.
I've tried a few things such as creating a new share with NFS only and opening the security as much as I can. I'm not applying any security from the media player side - I don;t know if I need to?
In case it makes any difference, I am using JBOD and not RAID so I am creating shares on each of the disks.
Any advice appreciated -thanks!!

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI have the EVA9150 and the NTV550, which are similar in some ways. They support SMB (samba) and NFS, and you get all features with both.
The PCH also appears to work that way (for instance page 26 of the C-300 user manual here: file:///C:/Users/admin/Downloads/PopcornHour_C-300_UserManual.pdf).
With the EVA/NTV products there was a slight performance gain with NFS, but that was the only benefit.
Which model PCH do you own? - Deano1AspirantI have both A200 and A300 but just to confirm - this is not for basic functionality and yes SMB will work fine to browse to the shares. I need to get NFS to work so I can get the PCH to mount the shares. Step 1 of this is to browse and play the files with NFS but unfortunately this is not working.
- vandermerweMasterOk, so movie files on the "data" volume don't play.
I don't really think the things I've suggested will work, but I don't know why it's not working so would try anything if it was me.
Why actually happens when you try to play the files? - Deano1AspirantHome page snapshot -
1st disk -
2nd and 3rd disks - - Deano1Aspirant

When I hit "play" on the PCH, I just get a spinning wheel and it comes back with "Could not play". The files are all fine - no problem via SMB - Deano1AspirantHere is an example of the TV share that is on the 1st disk (data)
Let me knof if you think any other screenshots would be useful and I'll upload them.
Also, is there a Windows application that I can use to test NFS access? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserJust to make sure we know where things sit...
(a) All of the folders in your screenshot can be browsed via NFS, and the files are visible. That includes /data/TV and /Movie1/Family. Correct?
(b) Although the files can seen, they cannot be played. Correct?
Did you try removing the checkbox next to "anyhosts" on the hosts screen?
Maybe also try the reset button on the file screen. - Deano1Aspirant

(a) yes
(b) yes
I didn't try that - I thought that it was necessary to allow any device to access the share? I take it that I should remove this and then add the IP address of the PCH?
Sorry - where is the reset button :? :? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIn the last screenshot above (the one of the File Access tab), on the left hand side there is a reset button.
- Deano1AspirantNeither of those two suggestions worked guys. I removed access to AnyHost and explicitly added the IP address of the PCH. Still not working :(
Tried Resetting the permissions as well but still nothing.
Is there anything that I can do on a PC to test this rather than the PCH? Because I've tried this with two PCH's I'm pretty certain that the problem is on the ReadyNAS side but it would be great to confirm this.
Even if there is noting for a Windows PC, I've downloaded VMware Player and Ubuntu and can build a virtual Linux computer if that would be worthwhile?
