cannot create symbolic link Error
Hi
I am using frontview to do a backup of my C volume over Ethernet network to a windows 7 pro share.
all seams to be going ok however i get the following errors
cp: cannot create symbolic link '/job_001/./.plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Metadata/TV Shows/f/470a7ba68b13fe13bdd241f5064ab6bc7b5eef3.bundle/Contents/_combined/seasons/1/posters/com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb_eb196c909cdea1c6c2e39dd3a7e528bdc81fb8e6': Operation not supported
this one i get hundreds of times (as its part of my plex database)
i also on occasion get the following (for different directory s/ files )
cp: cannot create directory '/job_001/./Data/Roku Reaserch:2fscripts': Input/output error
cp: cannot create regular file '/job_001/./Data/Shanghai World Expo/Expo AV:2fSound:2fLightsDWGs.zip': No such file or directory
can anyone help to resolve what could be causing these? i am running a readynas ultra 4 plus, with the latest version of radiator 4.xxx

Can you send me your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)? - atoudamAspiranthave emailed just now
what about the Symbolic link error? any idea what i can do to fix that, i was wondering if it was a windows 7 share issue but i cant find much info on how to fix it - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI think plex is using symbolic links, and windows can't copy them (since ntfs doesn't have a symlink file attribute). I don't think that can be fixed.
- atoudamAspirantso i would be correct in thinking that plex for windows does not use symbolic links?
is there anyway i can tell the frontview backup process to skip these files? or suppress these errors? it makes a mess of my error log and harder to find the more important errors - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
You can set up one backup per share - which will not copy the .apps files.atoudam wrote: is there anyway i can tell the frontview backup process to skip these files? or suppress these errors? it makes a mess of my error log and harder to find the more important errors
You can also use rsync to copy the data (installing deltacopy on the PC) - which does support file exclusions. - atoudamAspirantYea im hesitant to use Rsync as my understanding of it (correct me if im wrong) is that i have to us FTP etc to access the files (I cant simply just go into the drive and take what i want)
my back up is an assortment of HDDs in an old Win 7 machine using drivepool to make them into a single drive / share this way if my Nas were to fail, and or on of my backup drives i would still be able to go into the backup on any windows 7 machine and retrieve specific files as needed to rebuild, not reliant of a Deltacopy server
i may have to just back up the shares individually as you mention and ignore the system / add on files
mdgm have you received my logs? any idea what could be causing the IO error?
my main reason for doing a backup at this point is i have two new 3tb hdds that i want to install, but thought i should get a good backup first - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIf you are using rsync (or any other frontview backup protocol) to backup the files to Windows-hosted disks, then you can still access the backed up files using normal windows operations (windows explorer).
