Cannot Write to USB HDD on RN314
I have a 2 TB HDD hooked up to my new RN314 that was previously connected to my NV+ for backups via a VB Program I wrote. I have Everybody with Read/Write access; I can see/read anything, yet I cannot write to it, via Explorer nor Finder. Says Access Denied. I even tried to copy and paste a file via the ReadyCloud interface, and while it did not give an error message on the Paste, it did not paste the file onto the external HDD.
Seems I have everything OK. The drive has SMB, NFS, Rsync and HTTP protocols. I have no issues with any of the other shares on the 314. read/write is just fine.
What am I missing here? :?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat brand and model USB disk is this?
Can you write to the USB disk if you connect it up to e.g. your NV+ again or to your PC?
Did you remember to safely unmount it when disconnecting it from your NV+? - PWS442GuideNexStar CX 3.5 HDD USB 2.0 Enclosure with a Hitachi HDS722020ALA330 2.0 TB from a few years ago. Never had any problems. Is half empty (or half full).
Yes, I can still write to it via the NV+.
No, I simply shut down the power. I do (now) see the Frontview options to Disconnect it, did not see that in ReadyCloud. (BTW: I cannot rename it either. It is USB_HDD_1, but USB_HDD_2 on the NV+.) - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIs it connected to the front USB port or one of the rear ports on the 314?
If connected to a rear port, does connecting it to the front port make any difference?
If you download your logs what is the date in bios_ver.log ? - PWS442GuideIt is connected to the rear. I thought the front was for backups only (and I am getting a USB 3.0 drive to replace it: Seagate Expansion 3TB Desktop External Hard Drive USB 3.0 STBV3000100. Is this wise?)
Unfortunately I will not be able to access the logs now. Should have checked your reply before I left for work. (I do believe I have a recent box. Would the S/N be any help? I do have that.) - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPM me the serial number if you like though it's late here so sending the logs after you get home should be sufficient.
- PWS442GuideI hope I did. I still have that message in my Outbox. I hit the send button, and it changed to New PM, and I know I have done this before. Please let me know. And thanks. Gonna try again. I do not seem to be able to actually send when I hit the Submit button. I now have (2) in my Outbox, and nothing recent in my Sent folder, even though it said it sent it successfully.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserA PM stays in the outbox until it is read.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI guess your NAS probably has the latest BIOS, but it would be nice to look at your logs to confirm.

bios_date=11/05/2013
bios_vendor=American Megatrends Inc.
bios_version=4.6.5
Connected to front port, after Disconnecting from the NV+. No difference. Gave Everyone Read/Write permissions. Still cannot write.
