Can't Connect to ReadyNAS Duo from any device
Please help! I've pored through the forums and can't find an answer...
I have a ReadyNAS Duo connected directly to an internal rounter (Netgear 3700). I use an iMac (10.8.4) direct ethernet connect to router and MacBook Pro (10.7.5) via Wifi.
Both machines see the AFP and CIFS shares, but can't get to the files. I am unable to connect to the other shares at all.
RAIDar does not find the shares either.
I think I need to upgrade firmware directly, but not sure how to do it or if there is another solution.
Appreciate everyone's help!

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserWhat firmware are you running?
- cutyerheartoutAspirantI don't know - can't access the device (sound of frustration)
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIf RAIDar sees the device, then it will tell you the firmware and status (even if launching frontview doesn't work).
Do you see the NAs in the router attached device list?
How long have you had it? Did it ever work? - cutyerheartoutAspirantRAIDar does not see the device.
It does show up as a wired device on my router.
It has worked without difficulty for about 4 years, until yesterday morning.
I've restarted the whole system a number of times. There have been several times when I could "see" the files, but if I tried to open or manipulate them (like copy to another drive), the RAID would freeze again and disconnect. (during these times, RAIDar would see the drives before refreeze).
I've also popped out the drives and put them back in. - cutyerheartoutAspirantIncidentally, I always had the NAS drive on "autoupdate" for the firmware if that makes a difference.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIf you have a spare disk, maybe try powering down the NAS, removing both drives (keeping track of slot) and booting up with only the spare disk. That should do a factory default install, which would let you validate your hardware.
- cutyerheartoutAspirantUnfortunately do not have a spare disk. Did a prolonged shutdown and restart. Once again could access drive in finder, but when I go to the files, the drive disconnects. can I startup with a single drive (either bay 1 or bay 2) since I am running mirrored drives?
- cutyerheartoutAspirantTried bootup with just disk 1 (disk 2 removed) and had same problem. Then bootup with just disk 2 (disk 1 removed) and had access to files. Am currently dumping contents to another drive.
Is this failed disk 1, or interface in NAS unit? - vandermerweMasterI think it is a disk problem.
You could confirm this by testing the removed disk using vendor tools while you are waiting.
By dumping I presume you mean you are doing a backup. - cutyerheartoutAspirantyes doing a backup.
So can I move previous disk 2 to disk 1 position and replace disk 2 without causing havoc?
