Can't delete sparsebundle

Quick update: I said above that I was not able to expand the view of the "bands" directory in the finder window. In fact I can, it just takes
about 30 minutes for this to happen.
When I try to delete an individual file in the directory, it takes about 15 minutes to delete it. The small Trash window
opens saying Deleting "1a01" and Items to delete: 1 below the progress bar. There is nothing else going on on the ReadyNAS that I
know of (I've turned off backups from the other machine) so I have idea why it's so incredibly slow. It appears to be reasonably
responsive from the Frontview browser window I have open.
