Can't See ReadyNAS in Network
I have a ReadyNAS Ultra 4 Plus [X-RAID2], RAIDiator 4.2.24. Ethernet 1 is Online, Ethernet 2 is Offline. All devices are in the same Workgroup. The UPnP discovery services are enabled. If I generate a network map from the network and sharing center, it shows the device. It also lists it as a storage device.
I thought if I would go into file explorer on Windows 7 or 8, I should be able to see the device under "Network"; however, I don't see it there.
Any thoughts as to what I don't have turned on or blocked so that I can see the device under Network in the file explorer? If I map a drive and manually type in the path, the drive maps properly. The only thing that seems not to work is the ability to see the device like a computer on the network in both Windows 7 and 8.

- boblamAspirantIt also shows up as a Media Device in File Explorer.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThis is a common issue, I know of no solution. There is also no clear diagnosis as to the problem is in Windows or the NAS.
The workarounds are
(a) create desktop shortcuts to the NAS folders
(b) map drives to the various NAS folders. - boblamAspirantThose are workarounds, and I already have mapped drives. I'm want to have the NAS appear in the network. Any thoughts as to how to track down the issue. I've seen this working before. Normally something is blocked or on a different subnet when this happens. Thoughts?
- boblamAspirantIt shows up as a storage device under Network. If I select it under storage, it gives the following error:
An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the fie. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.
Error 0x80004002: No such interface supported

ReadyNAS Frontview

My thoughts are that it is trying to access the ReadyNAS device but doesn't have the credentials or can't because of the certificate error I normally see when I access Frontview.
Any thoughts as to how to make this show up as a computer instead of a storage device?
Perhaps the issue with showing up in network has to do with permissions. It also appears and then disappears as a storage device. Hard to describe other than it flashes on and off about every 30 seconds.
On windows 8 I am using a workgroup. Also, Windows Live credentials. Not sure if this matters but it is a difference from the prior setup with Windows 7.
Any thoughts? - arcadian1InitiateI've had the same problem and it drives me crazy, Ready NAS shows as "Other device" but not as a "Computer".
What seems to work in Win 7 is if you enter \\DEVICENAME (mine is unoriginally called READYNAS, so I enter \\READYNAS) into the command line at the top and hit enter it will find the device as a computer. This also fixes the same problem that I have with a Qnap, so it seems to be a Windows issue.
Let us know if it works for you. - boblamAspirantI can map a drive and it can always find the device by putting in the device name. It just doesn't show up under "Network" in file explorer and it flashes on and off periodically as a storage device.
- BuelliganAspirantBoblam, did you ever get to the bottom of this? I've got the same issue which extends further ie. I cannot see it on my DLNA TVs. The other symptoms are the same as you are describing.
Win 8.1
ReadtNAS
Netgear switch
Cannot see it under workgroup and get the error message.
I haven't changed anything although Windows might have updated of course. I am on the verge of taking the drives out and factory resetting the unit. Anyone tried this? Strange there no feedback from Netgear? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDLNA is completely unrelated.
- BuelliganAspirantIMO it is not completely unrelated as it stopped (for me) at the same time.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDid you change out your router about that time? Or do anything else that might have changed your network?
