Check out the command "chown" - which enables you to change both owner and group IDs for files & folders

Depending on the OS, UIDs of <1000 are typically reserved for OS usage. Newer ReadyNAS firmware releases appear to be using UIDs of 10000 and higher for the UIDs associated with shares. I tend to use IDs of 2000+, usually safe.
