Comparing "Remote: Windows/NAS (Timestamp)" to alternatives?
I am curious what mechanism the "Remote Windows/NAS (Timestamp)" uses for Backups? Is it anything like rsync?
How does "Windows/NAS" perform compared to other backup options for the intial backup?
- "Remote: Rsync Server";
- "Remote: NFS Server";
- "Remote: FTP Site";
- "Remote: Website";
How does "Windows/NAS" preform compared to other backup options for the incremental backups?
- "Remote: Rsync Server";
- "Remote: NFS Server";
- "Remote: FTP Site";
- "Remote: Website";
Any insights would be appreciated. For reference, I am currently using "Windows/NAS" to do a one-time backup of my old nv+ to my new ultra6. After everything is safely migrated, I plan to upgrade the firmware on the nv+, likely upgrade the nv+ drives, then turn the nv+ into a backup for the new ultra6. My main question is to what mechanisms I should use to keep them in sync going forward. Hopefully I won't lose any data in the upgrades but I wanted to know the best way to approach the initial copy from the ultra6 to the upgraded nv+ (if I do lose data in the upgrades) and the best way to keep them in sync incrementally afterward...

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI am planning something similar, using my NV+ and DUO as backups for a new PRO.
I've done a few performance measurements, NFS came out much faster than rsync or Windows/NAS. FTP doesn't connect for some reason; I plan to measure that speed also once I sort it out.
If other folks have performance data, or other factors to consider, I'd love to hear it. - ewokNETGEAR ExpertFor NAS to NAS backups, NFS and rsync are the preferred protocols since they are the most native.
