It seems the dialog box that pops up asking for a username and password is related to the OS not the ReadyNAS. If i use a ReadyNSA username which doesn't match an OSX local username then the dialog box will never accept a username + password.
So the ReadyNAS lets users connect via AFP and browse, but not to create any folders or files.
