Correct setup in order to facilitate further disk recovery

I'm quite disturbed by the "no important data should be stored on just the one device". That's why I have bought a NAS! I want a backup for important data and I need to be able to recover them in case of a disk failure or a Nas failure! Isn't it one of the fundamental idea of a NAS? I would have guessed that Netgear is providing such tools.
