cp: cannot stat

I'm having permissions problems with my back up. I am attempting to back up my ReadyNAS Duo V2 3TB RAID to a WD My Book 3TB drive.

The problem appears to be one of permissions. I am not sure what account I am logged in to the admin interface as and logging out and reopening it doesn't ask me for U/P so no help there. I suspect it is the 'admin' account however. I have tried to set the ownership of all files in the share to 'admin' but it doesn't accept it (tried 'root' too). I can set it to my username but the problem persists and the back up reports 'cp: cannot stat' on many files.

My question is: What account is the Backup routine using and how do I set all files to be readable by that account?

I need to back up the device before trying to clear out a Trojan that has resulted in my network being banned by major internet entities (such as Google). To say I'm a little unhappy with my ReadyNAS experience would be an understatement.

If you are in dashboard, you must be using the admin account. Likely you asked the browser to remember the user/pass. Firefox will let you see saved passwords on the security tab.

Does the 'cp: cannot stat' say "permission denied" or something else?

Did you use reset the permissions as shown here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detai ... v%2B-v2%3F
  • The error lines in the log are all:
cp: cannot stat '/USB_HDD_5/./foldername': Input/output error

    The final line is:
    Reason for failure:
Error encountered copying data from source path Videos/TV ==> /USB_HDD_5/ due to unknown reason. Please see log.

I thought i was looking at the log.

I have used the Reset Permissions as per that link numerous times.
  • Well, I gave up and did a network sync of my drives. Before doing a firmware reset.

I have to express how bloody frustrating this device is.It's doesn't work as advertised. And half the features in the interface are buggy. There are even Addons to fix things that really should be a bug fix anyway (Fixhostname comes to mind).
