Hello all, I've just replaced the CPU fan with a Noctua fan, which I modified slightly to make it fit perfectly (I'll share some pics later). All is well but.. OS6 does not show the CPU fan spe...

Check connections. If all looks good, including pulse input and tach output not reversed, my next guess would be it's just a faulty fan. It happens.

I have already - I suspected the faulty fan as well... I guess I'll test it on my PC before returning it.
Thanks for the sanity check.
Update for Sandshark : I am very confused. I tested the fan on my desktop motherboard (on CPU connector which is the only one I have featuring 4 pins) and it reports the speed as expected - as does the original ReadyNas fan.
Then I started the NAS with the original fan and the speed indicator was back. I then swapped the fan with the system running and the Noctua fan is now reporting the speed correctly... Not sure it'll survive a reboot.
What is happening here?

One thing I realize you didn't state is that the fan is also running at full speed, which would be a typical additional consequence. Are you sure it's turning at all? One problem with some aftermarket fans is they will not continue to run at the lowest speeds the NAS wants to run them, so that has to be adjusted.
Plugging it in with the unit already warm may have given it the boost it needed to stay above it's minumum speed capability. Rebooting re-started at a speed below your new fan's lower threshold.
