Basically you need to power off your NAS, find the reset button on the back of the unit, put a straightened paper clip in it and depress the reset button *before* powering on the NAS and keep the reset button depressed until the phrase "Boot Menu" is displayed on the LCD. Then use the backup button to cycle through the options until you get to "OS Reinstall". Now use the paper clip to press the Reset button on the back again.
This would also be the way to get your NAS into TechSupport mode which you could try first as StephenB suggested. This will open a telnet connection to the ReadyNAS and allow to run some diags on the system.

I didn't see the bit about tech support command line mode...which could have been interesting to try first...sorry I missed that, anyway I did the OS reinstall...Raidar sees it, but no admin page yet, I presume its taking a while to rebuild some stuff under /

Maybe see if you can ssh in. Usually that works before the web server is up.

would my old unix login still be there? Its saying connection refused

Try root as the log-on, with netgear1 as the password.

raidar finds it, shows it with a new name. it said "Upgrading" for a while, but now it says "healthy". However, hitting the admin button brings up nothing. Trying ssh comes back with connection refused.

I dunno been waiting...still no connection. Ping works. nothing else. Raidar says its "Healthy". a new host name was assigned during the OS reinstall I guess. I dont' really know what else to do.

Tech support mode ought to work, but you'd need help from there.
