Creating share (new folder).... very odd

I have one shared folder that is being used just as an NFS folder for my VMWare VMDKs. I want to simply create another share to and enable SMB and DLNA. I click the button for "New Folder" and the dialog box opens. I fill everything out and click "Create" and the ReadyNAS just sits and does nothing. I can see the mouse click event happened because a small blue frame highlights around the button but nothing else. I let it sit 2 hours just for the heck of it and I came back to find the same thing..... just sitting with the dialog box where I left it. I press the "cancel" button and that works but not the "Create" button. I tried rebooting the device.... nothing. Tried Chrome and IE11, results are the same.

Here's a link to a youtube video as its just easier to watch :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY6uvCoQI1s

I need to find out what is going on. If someone can give me the commands to create this via Putty / SSH I will try that..... I am not well versed with Linux.

I am running 6.2.1 on a ReadyNAS 314

Thanks!!

  • yeah, I guess I could but I would feel more comfortable if there was some data or known fact behind the version upgrade. Are you just guessing that the firmware could be the cause? In order to upgrade I have to take a backup which is gonna take time. Then I have to down my VM environment do perform the upgrade.

.....I would rather not unless I absolutely need to. The version upgrade I would like to do as a "planned upgrade".

    Thanks - John
  • I don't know how to create a share using ssh, I'm not sure it would necessarily be a good strategy here, especially as you don't have a backup. I was going to suggest an OS reinstall, but since you are on 6.2.1 I thought you might as well go for the update.
There was an issue with 6.2.0 where some GUI menus disappeared - not the same problem as yours though.

Does the share creation fail if other services are set to be active when you set it up?

mdgm may help more but it's possible he may offer the same initial advice.
  • yeah, regardless of what I do with the services it hangs (it doesn't really fail). I actually can't tell what happens. It seems as though the code behind the "create" button is just not there. I looked through every log and I don't see any mention of a share creation or error although I am not sure if creating a share is supposed to log anything .... I would imagine so.

    Thanks - John
  • So I took a leap of faith....... I upgraded the firmware without a backup (GULP). Good news is everything went fine and ..... my share problem is fixed!!

    Thanks for your help!!
