Dead PSU NV+ - Can I simply plug and play in new ReadyNAS?
Hi All, I've a ReadyNAS NV+ which seems to have a failed PSU - from online forums I see that these are a part that's no longer available (thanks Netgear) and I need to access the data that's stored on the device. Data has been stored using RAID 5 across 4 discs.
If I purchase a new Netgear ReadyNAS 104 will I be able to simply remove the discs, put them in the new device in the same order and then power on and have access to the data?
If not, what do I need to do?
Regards, Antony

- vandermerweMasterAre you the original owner? If so when did you buy it?
Is your unit serial number within the range defined here:

If so, contact Netgear support, they should send you a replacement. If they don't, post your case number here in the thread title.
If it's not within that range you have some options:
1. Try to find a psu, they are around, depending on where you live eg.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-Power-S ... B000W3X480
2. Find another nv+ , then you can migrate your disks, just ask here for instructions on how to do this.
3. Buy a new readynas 104,204 or314 then contact support who will assist you in migrating the disks. Don't insert the disks into the new unit until support tells you to, and you will need somewhere to backup the data. You'll need proof of purchase of course. - Antony11AspirantThanks for the reply, given ReadyNAS NV+ run at about the price of a new 104 I'm inclined to get a new unit. Is the process of accessing my old disks difficult? Is there any cost associated with getting support to assist? Also, is there even a support team in Australia? I'll have to look into that I suppose!
- vandermerweMasterNetgear support is international.
If the array is healthy I think there will be no charge, however if it is not you may need to pay for data recovery. In your case I think it should be free.
The process involves Netgear remotely accessing your unit, then you putting in the disks when they instruct you to. Once you have access to the data you must copy it to another location ( hence the need for suitable storage space other tan the disks in the nas). Once you have backed up the data the new nas is factory defaulted back onto os6 and you can restore the data to it from backup.
You cannot do this without Netgear support.
Of course if you get a pau AND anew nas you could use the old nas for backup.
