That email shouldn't have been sent to you (but your Duo v2 is also EOL).
That email was meant for our customers with legacy x86 units.

Please clarify whether the 'erroneous' email applies to my ReadyNAS Ultra 4 Plus or will I now have to shell out further $$$ to buy a new unit.

At this time all our legacy units are EOL.
The email was meant for customers of our legacy x86 units (i.e. those units which run RAIDiator-x86 4.2.x). The Ultra 4 Plus is one of these units. 4.2.28 is the last firmware update for this unit.
You can continue to use your NAS, but we would recommend when your budget permits that you purchase one of our new models which offer higher performance, more functionality and an improved user experience.- PotholerNov 12, 2015Aspirant
Thank you for your prompt response. If I were to purchase aReadyNAS 104 4-bay chassis would I be able to simply move across the four 2TB disks containing my backups from my ReadyNAS Ultra 4 Plus to the 104?
