Disk failure
Hi,
I read post about that, but didn't find answer to my problem.
My readynas duo v1 won't boot up anymore. It start, then the fan start like an airplane but I will never be able to access to the hard drive. One hardrive failled. So I remove it and try to start the readynas again. It starts, but with raidar it will never pass the file system check.
I removed the DD and try to read it with windows and Ext2fsd. I am able to access it, but none of the data. The "C" folder is empty.
I don't have an other readynas, I don't have SATA to USB stick to use the VMware recovery tools.
So what can I do to retreive my files. I thought that a double disk will ensure that my data will be saved on two different hard drive, so if one failed, I will be able to retreive them from the other.
Thanks for your help
Regards

- vandermerweMasterHave you contacted support?
Do you have a backup?
Are you certain you have a v1?
Did you actually replace the failed disk or just take it out? Did you try replacing the failed disk?
How did you know that the disk had failed?
Which disk did you attempt to read? If you have a Duo v1 you will only be able to directly read data from disk 1. You'd need to use something like: http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/ - fdecourtAspirantHi,
Thanks for your reply.
Here my answer to your question :
Have you contacted support? > Not yet, we are sunday and I spend the last 5 hours trying to find a solution !
Are you certain you have a v1? > yes I am ;-)
Did you actually replace the failed disk or just take it out? > I just took it out, I don't have a replacement disk (I will send the failed one tomorrow to the reseller)
Did you try replacing the failed disk? > Nop, just dont have an other hard drive this size
How did you know that the disk had failed? > I plug it on other computer, and it can't be read at all. It make some big "click click" when I plug it, then it stops running
Which disk did you attempt to read? > both of them, but I don't know if it is disk one or disk two.
If you have a Duo v1 you will only be able to directly read data from disk 1 > does that mean, maybe I won't be able to recover my data ? What is the use of x-raid in this case ?
I will try the linux reader now !
Edit : I tried linuxreader but the C folder is still empty ! - vandermerweMasterXraid offers protection against some issues but it is not a replacement for a backup.
You may have 2 disks that have failed or a problem with the OS or hardware.
I would suggest contacting support, you can file an online support request at any time.
