Drive Mapping and Performance

One disadvantage of drive mapping is that some malware (for instance cryptolocker) can corrupt files in mapped drives, but not UNCs.
A related option is to right click on computer and choose "add a network location". That puts a shortcut to the NAS share in computer, but doesn't assign it a drive letter.
I have one PC that I use frequently for moving data to the NAS. I use drive letters on that one for convenience. On other machines I just type \\nas into explorer, and pick the right share. I also put some shortcuts on the desktop of the machines my wife uses, for her convenience.
