Duo v1 do not boot with 2 drives
After working without any problems for years including upgrade from 2x500Mb to 2x1Tb to 2x2Tb discs I got problems. It started with that I lost contact with my Duo v1. After spending some hours troubleshooting during the holidays I have come to the conclution that my Duo can not boot with both discs attached. If I remove the disc in bay 2 it boots as expected. The same thing if I remove the disc in bay 1. But with discs in both bay 1 and 2 it never boots. I have tested with two different pairs of drives with the same result.
Has anyone else experience this and what was the soloution (if there were any...) ?
I have upgraded the firmware and performed factory reset several times.
Thanks.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIt sounds to me like a failing power supply (not enough power to spin up both disks).
I think if you google you can probably find a brick that is compatible. - mdietricAspirantHi Hobban,
i have the same Problem. Please See my post Here:

I wanted to use 2 x 2TB Seagate Drive which is on the combatibility list.
I hopefully will have the chance to test 2 other different drives this week.
Will keep you up to date.
Michael - mdietricAspirantmade a test a few minutes ago:
I have opened the casing on the Bay 2 side and have removed the plug of the chassis fan just for power-up. You won't believe it but the Duo v1 was booting with both drives installed! So StephenB seems to be right.
Can anyone recommend a suitable switching adapter? It seems that the standard 12V-switching adapter ist too weak (output: 5A). Will 6A (90W) be sufficient or do I have to take a 10A-version (100-120W)? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI suspect the standard 5A is ok, but that the brick is no longer able to output that.
I can see 6A, but 10A seems too high. - HobbanAspirantThat was interesting.
I will try the same tonight. - mdietricAspirantI have now ordered the following switching adaptor:

I hope to be able to give a positive reply on this within the next days.
@StephenB: What do you mean with "brick"? I am not a native english speaker. Do you mean the integrated circuit of the switching adaptor? Could it be that it is worn out?
The starting current of the 2TB HDD is 2A. This means 4 A for the drives plus the current which is drawn by the chassis fan at full speed at starting-up. - StephenBGuru - Experienced User"brick" -> external power adapter. It's about the size/shape of a brick.
- mdietricAspirantjust had a closer look into the datasheet of the 2TB Seagate ST2000DM001. The starting current is even 2.5A. So no wonder that that the ReadyNAS cannot boot when both HDDs want to spin up and the chassis fan is running at full speed at the first ten to twenty seconds.
Just received two 1TB Seagate ST1000DM003 (starting current 2A) from a friend of mine. Will test them and wait for the improved power adapter as mentioned above. - mdietricAspirantRight now I have installed 2 x Seagate ST1000DM003 (1TB, starting current 2A) and the Readynas Duo is booting!
So, let's wait for the new power supply adapter. Hopefully the stability of the output current will be sufficient for the spin-up of the two 2TB-drives. - HobbanAspirantI have tried to boot with 1x1T WD Green. The sounds of the drives indicates that they are trying to spinn up but failing.
I tried to find out the starting current of the 1T WD Green drive without success.
I have identified a new power adapter but would like to know how things work out for you before ordering it.
