Expansion with drive not on HCL

Hitachi disks. I have successfully used Hitachi disks in an Ultra unit. However I know there are different firmwares and some simply did not work. That may have been an embedded hCL, but you may have issues, not because of the brand or the size, but just the version.
Otherwise, if everything boots up, I haven't had any problems with my units and a mixture of drives.
