Factory reset still going after 20 hoours?
Hi All
I have a V1 Duo with 2 * 1TB disks that I've been playing with to try out music streaming.
I managed to forget what I'd changed the admin password to (lesson learnt) and decided to do a factory reset as my data was not critical. My first attempt failed for some reason. I thought I'd held the reset button in long enough but didn't. Anyway, I tried again with more luck. The front LEDs blinked at 5 and 30 seconds as expected, then I released the reset button.
The power button is flashing, the green LED against '2' is lit and it's making quite a racket. My issue is that this has been going on for more than 20 hours now!!!
What should I do? Leave it going? If so, for how long? Turn it off? Try again?
Any thoughts?
Gavin

when you factory reset the unit as StephenB pointed out this resets admin password to netgear1
You apparently missed this followup:blacketg wrote: There's been a 'development'. The power lead got knocked out, and when re-connected the NAS has gone back to 'normal'. I can now see it in RAIDar and in Windows Explorer. None of the data has been wiped. Should I manually delete the data and try again? I can't get through to 'Setup' - it asks for an admin password and I can't seem to give it the right combination.
It isn't clear what exactly was happening in the first step, though it does not appear to have been a factor reset.
Anyway, I think an OS reinstall is the right next step. Once he can get into the NAS again, he can sort out if there is any benefit to doing the reset. - blacketgAspirantHi Everyone
Thanks for all your input and encouragement. The good news seems to be that I'm on the road to success.
The original attempt at the factory reset seemed to have failed. After the power lead got knocked out, the NAS restarted and went back to its original state. I could access it through RAIDar and Windows Explorer, and see the data, but couldn't log in to the admin functions.
I deleted all the data through Explorer and left it overnight to settle down. The LEDs had stopped flashing by the morning, and I re-tried the factory reset. This time it has worked, and again once it had finished all its flashing, I could access the admin functions with the standard password. I've now been through the setup process, setting the password to something I can remember! It's now busy doing a re-boot after I updated the firmware.
There was also a bizarre piece of co-incidence too. I opened my email this morning to find an email delivery failure notice. The original email was from a month ago when I tried the password recovery process. This had a new password that I coud have used all along had I been able to see the email!
Thanks once again.

If you have not done a factory default since updating to 4.1.7 or later you should do one.
Too late for this now but as referred to above an OS Re-install would have reset the admin password but left data intact.
