Failed FrontView backup, how to fix?

Ready to do my upgrade and have been considering a slightly different strategy than I originally planned -
Instead of buying a 314 for backup and upgrading the Pro 6 to 0S6, I'm thinking of spending a bit more, getting a 316 instead of a 314, and using the Pro 6 for backup keeping it on RAIDiator 4.2.X.
The Pro 6 is still a solid box - I've upgraded it with a 2.66GHz E6700 CPU and 8GB RAM. How would this machine compare with the 316 in terms of overall speed and power?
The 316 has a newer but slower processor and a quarter of the RAM that I have in the Pro.
Aside from newer i/o and warranty, how do these machines compare for general-purpose use?
