The 316 is good model. It's not as fast as Pro 6 or the 516 though.
What do you use the NAS for? That will help determine if you need the extra processing power or not.
Great info, thank you. I had a hunch this may be the case but wanted to be sure.
We use the Pros for file storage and sharing - both typical business documents, as well as photo libraries and large media files used in video production. My partners' Pro serves a workgroup of about five people, mine is mostly just me. I also use mine as a media streamer via Subsonic.
I also use my Pro for video post-production storage and currently get ~110MB/s transfers up and down.
Agree that 516/716x is the logical upgrade but can't justify the cost. I was pricing the 314 and seeing that the 316 is just a couple hundred more, started thinking about this new scenario. It seems the 314 and 316 are basically the same machine with different number of bays. It sounds like I wouldn't get faster throughput with a 316. Throughput is as important as processing in my use.
Sounds like I'll be fine with the original plan - upgrade Pro 6 to OS6 and get a 314 for backup. Thanks for confirming.
