FW 4.1.9: Unable to install Midnight commander (MC)

I have just installed firmware 4.1.9, applied root/SSH addon and apt-get addon.
I am trying to install usual Midnight commander.
I have done:
apt-get update
apt-get install mc

Update completed successfully, but installation has this course of action:
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
mc: Depends: libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.6.0) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libgpmg1 (>= 1.19.6-1) but it is not going to be installed
smbclient: Depends: samba-common (= 3.0.37.netgear2) but 2:3.5.15-netgear1 is to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

Ok, I did "apt-get -f install" as told:
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Correcting dependencies... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
smbclient
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 71 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives.
After unpacking 9081kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] n
Abort.

And this is where I finished. I know that smbclient is not server, but who the hell knows if frontview will try to use it or anything else. I am just not ok with removing packages that were originally installed with firmware.

UPDATE:
I have just downloaded mc_4.7.0.9-1_sparc.deb to try install it directly. I executed "dpkg -install mc_4.7.0.9-1_sparc.deb" with this result:
Selecting previously deselected package mc.
(Reading database ... 10138 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking mc (from mc_4.7.0.9-1_sparc.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of mc:
mc depends on e2fslibs (>= 1.41.0); however:
Version of e2fslibs on system is 1.40.11-1.netgear2.
mc depends on libc6 (>= 2.6); however:
Version of libc6 on system is 2.3.2.ds1-22sarge6.infrant1.
mc depends on libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.24.0); however:
Package libglib2.0-0 is not installed.
mc depends on libgpm2 (>= 1.20.4); however:
Package libgpm2 is not installed.
mc depends on libslang2 (>= 2.0.7-1); however:
Package libslang2 is not installed.
dpkg: error processing mc (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
mc

At least this a little revealed what is going on.
Is there any better (and working) way to install mc on ReadyNas with FW4.1.9? Like adding more depositories or something..

  • I did the following:

    apt-get -f install (and accepted the de-installation of smbclient)
    apt-get install libc6 coreutils e2fslibs tzdata licomerr2 libslang2 arj bzip2 unzip zip mc
  • Can you please kindly tell me the meaning of the following sentence ?

    apt-get -f install (and accepted the de-installation of smbclient)

    Is it to uninstall smbclient, please?

    Thanks
    Frank
