Do you have a stand alone switch? I think the problem only occurs when there is a port mismatch. E.g pc on 100mb and nas on 1gb. If you can put them both into a single switch with the same port speeds it should solve the problem.
It has to be some sort of MTU/port issue in my opinion. Would be nice to have the ability to hard-code the nas Ethernet port. My profession is wide area networks, and we see this issue all day long! If clients connect their device with an auto/auto (speed/duplex) setting then we see loads of packet loss. Although the auto/auto has correctly negotiated, when it's manually set it fixes the problem! Any business users with efm & fibre internet circuits would be familiar with this.
