HELP! 21694854, Volume C offline, shares unaccessible

There was a big thunderstorm last week and my ReadyNas hasn't been the same since. ReadyNas was hooked up to the UPC with surge protection.
Originally I couldn't access FrontView nor my shares. Did a boot recovery AND OS reset on my Readynas Duo. Now I have access from FrontView and it states the following:

Volume C: Offline, X-RAID, 2 disks, 100% of 1860 GB used
FrontView states 100% diskspace used though it was at 56% prior to the storm.

I can't access the shares at all. I then enabled SSH. Logged into it as root and it says that there is nothing in the share folders. Also, when the ReadyNas boots, it is unable to scan the volume. The disks show up OK.

Disk 1 Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 1862 GB , 29 C / 84 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 2 Seagate ST32000542AS 1862 GB , 28 C / 82 F , Write-cache ON OK

HELP.

I am hoping I can recover my files.

    What's the output of

    # df -h

You probably should contact support (See the Online Submission link in my sig) as attempts to fix the problem yourself may make things worse and reduce the chances of data recovery.
  • running df -h states the following:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/hdc1 1.9G 556M 1.3G 28% /
    tmpfs 16k 0 16k 0% /USB

I did already create a support ticket. #21694854

    Any other ideas?
  • support stated that my unit is not out of warranty and I need to extend if it I want them to take a look at it.

I don't know if it is worthwhile to extend the contract. Can I take the existing hard drives and put them in a new ReadyNas and it will "recognize" the data?

I did run a USB back-up. What time of format is the USB back-ups? Can I just hook it up to my computer? I don't know if it's worth paying for support if there are other options.

You could only migrate to another Duo/NV+ v1 unit. Newer models use a different CPU architecture, RAID format etc. so you can't migrate your disks across to those.

However your problem may/may not be with the NAS chassis. It is probably more likely an issue on the disks that you would need support to have a look at.

So you will have to decide how important the data you have not backed up is to you.
  • In case anyone is interested, I called support and purchased an extended warranty for another year.

I had to go through the standard procedure of OS reinstall, booting with just disk 1. They asked me to put it in telnet mode, but it never could get an IP address from the router. It was constantly 196.168.168.168. They are sending me anoter readynas duo unit and we will go on from there.

In looking at the logs, the only major thing was disk 1 had no "partition table".

I'm updating this just in case anyone is following along.
