telnet (root)
It doesn't look like you tried to mount the real boot flash.
mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt
If that works, then try
ls /mnt
You should see something like this:
csums.md5 kernel.up root.tlz version.txt
initrd.gz ldlinux.sys supplmnt.tlz vpd
kernel memtest syslinux.cfg
Let us know what you see there.

initrd.gz ldlinux.sys root.tlz syslinux.cfgOk. So the VPD is indeed missing.
I'm not sure if the vpd showing in in the root in Sandshark's guide is a folder, or whether it is the vpd file itself. I'm tagging him, so hopefully he will answer.

Dear StephenB,
Thank you very much for joining in to help with my issue — I truly appreciate your time and support. I hope we will be able to resolve the problem and bring the NAS back to life.

vpd is a file at root of the actual boot flash. There must not be a vpd directory since it can't co-exist with the vpd file. My guess is that /proc/sys/dev/boot/info is created by the boot process from the data in the vpd file. Given it's in /proc/sys, it has to be put there by the system -- it's not a file on a drive (at least not in that location) .
