How do I migrate a healthy array to a new x86 ReadyNAS? Just plug in new drives and turn on?
How do I migrate a healthy array to a new x86 ReadyNAS? Just plug in new drives and turn on? I think one is a Readynas Pro pioneer edition and the other is a pro edition. Both look about the same...

Ok, I put the hard drives into a different Readynas pro box and I get the following error message
" remove inactive volumes to use disk 1-6" please see the attached link for a screenshot.

P.S. Is there a way I can have the screenshot picture just appear in the post without having to link it to Imgru ?

Maybe the readynas is expecting the prior volume/hard drives and that is why its refusing to accept the other hard drives.

Assuming you migrated with the NAS power off: This suggests that the array wasn't healthy after all. Is this the same issue that you were posting about last May?

No. The NAS boots from the hard drives, and all the information about the configuration is on the hard drives.

You should be able to use the "Photos" option in the toolbar, and upload the screenshot directly from your PC. That will appear in-line - in your case like this:
FWIW, I prefer PNG over JPG for screenshots, as PNG is lossless.

1. This is not the same type of problem I had before. The situation before was the Readynas device would fail to come up or if it did come up, it would only transfer for a short time then it would be unavailable however the volume showed all as green in the web admin screen when it did come up. There were no errors showing up in the health or logs.
Running various hard drive utilities showed the hard drive were in good health. I even ran RECLAIME and was able to see the file tree and backup a lot of the files.
2. Do the 2 systems need to be exactly the same and run the exact same version of the software? They both had the same look to the Web admin screen but the one I placed the drives in were recently updated to the latest firmware wereas the previous one had an older firmware but with the identical look.
3. One was the Readynas pro pioneer edition the other was the Readynas Pro business edition? They both look the same from the outside.
The problem of having the entire array show up as Red( as Inactive volume) in the web admin screen is NOT a problem I had experienced before. All indications show the drives were good but something else in the RAID system was flaking out.
Is there anything left to try to get this readynas to recognize this array?
Thanks.
