Impression NAS - how to update firmware and what capacity drives

Wow. That is very old firmware from mid 2005. The first firmware we did for the Impression NAS, I think.

Hopefully I can help you update your NAS to the latest firmware that can run on your NAS. A lot has changed since mid 2005.

First thing you should do is to backup your data if you haven't already.

You need to update to the latest Impression firmware, install the Fix Vendor ID add-on so you can install our standard firmware, then update the firmware.

1. Update to 2.00c1-p9: http://www.readynas.com/contributed/mdgm/firmware/Impression/RAIDiator-Impression-2.00c1-p9
2. Install this add-on via FrontView>System>Update>Local: http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/3.01/FixVendorID_0.1.bin
3. Reboot twice.
4. Upload 4.1.13 via Update>Local: http://www.readynas.com/download/RAIDiator/RAIDiator-4.1.13

Once you've done this you should then be able to use 2TB disks in your NAS (e.g 4 x 2TB - higher capacity disks are not compatible).

I would suggest after you've updated to 4.1.13 powering down, removing the 250GB disks and doing a factory default with new disks in place.

Note at least 256MB RAM is recommended for RAIDiator 4. If you only have 128MB RAM installed you should consider a RAM upgrade.
