Integrity of Time Machine backups over time?
Hi, I wonder how frequent one should accept to redo a Time Machine backup (of say 100-200 GB) on a ReadyNAS 314? I have had ReadyNAS 314 now for soon 3 months using firmware 6.2.4 and needed to r...

Hi
I have reported the issue to the Swedish support site.
They say that they cannot find any other customer that found the same problem.
And further they hope it will be better with 6.4.0 but have not given any argument
of why they believe that.
If I should send you loggs of my system how do I do that?
I am not sure it is really proper to just post them here on the forum right?
And how close in time do you need the logg after I found the notification that
I must restart the Time Machine backup form scratch?
Right now it is about a week since I had this notification last time and I am about
to re-configure the whole NAS due the fact that the update to 6.4.0 changed the volume
where Time Machine backups are placed.... see the discussion under
/Using your ReadyNAS/Installation & Upgrade/Volume name?
Best regards

At 1 week old some logs would have already been rotated. There is a Sending Logs link in my sig if you want to send them.
I suspect there is an issue with Mac OS X that is causing this issue as I have seen occasional reports of this for some years now.

I have just re-configured the system (now running 6.4.0) and new TM backups made for three Macs.
I will let you know here when (and if I need to redo the TM backups). Could be there will be a 6.4.1 before
which I iikley want to quickly upgrade to, depending on the content.
Of course it can be an Apple (vs OS6?) problem, but as I wrote in my first post I in parallell do TM backups
on separate stand-alone HDs and they last much longer. So if TM complains about NAS314 backup I can still
go on to do TM backup with the external HD ususally. Not sure if that helps your thinking.

Hello,
I run a ReadyNAS 104 at level 6.4.1.
Since this evening time machine is not running backups anymore but asks to start over for integrity reasons.
I can access the time machine backup and scan through it using time machine itself. Seems to be no problem with it.
Which logs do you need to check what's wrong?
I'm using private time machine. 302GB of 800GB are still free.
Would be good we can fix this as I don't want to delete my complete backup history.
Thanks and regards,
Holger

I thought about adding a screen shot of the message but it's in German, so maybe not that useful in here.
I'll translate to English:
"Time Machine has finished the verification of your backups on PrivateNAS.
To increase reliability, Time Machine needs to create a new backup for you.
Klick on "start new backup" to create a new Backup. This will delete your existing backup history. This can take several hours.
..."
I can choose between "start new backup" and "backup later".
"Start new backup" already described above.
"Backup later" only stops automatic backups and delays things until next morning.
So nothing I can do here except deleting everything - which I did not do yet.
I already restarted my Mac (El Capitan 10.11.2) and reaccessed the NAS / time machine share - both did not help.
Any idea?
