iTunes. NV+ V2 4bay's
Hi all.
I just got my first NAS.
I read on the Netgear website about the device before I both it and noted it had a iTunes Server
but I can't find how to turn the iTunes server on the NAS.
Dose the NAS have iTunes Server as it says on the Netgear website?
pls help me to turn on the iTunes server.

- LaflecheAspirantHi all,
I confirm that the method explained by axg20202 works on my NV + V2
I have just change the DAAPD = 0 by DAAPD = 1 line in the 'service' file
After a reboot, the Firefly web admin page is accessible at this address: http://your_ReadyNas_IP:3689 - hundredacresAspirantConfirmed procedure works as well.
- johntclintonAspirantBrand new NV+ v2 bought in part on the strength of this (still) advertised functionality...
Latest firmware (Raidiator 5.3.7), everything up to date.
Tried to follow the instructions above as given by Andy.
All goes well until I open the services file to edit it - and there is no entry in this file with DAAP=0.
Hence I am a bit stuck...all suggestions appreciated.
John
Just to add one other thing. As a new user of this product, I am pretty appalled by how out of date and inaccurate the documentation provided on the readyNAS website is....very little works as described, which is poor to say the least - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
You do need to be careful to make sure the documentation applies to the v2. A lot of material is for the older sparc and x86 architectures.johntclinton wrote: Just to add one other thing. You do need to be careful if you are using a Text Editor to use e.g. Notepad++ not Notepad.
- johntclintonAspirantThanks for the advice, and apologies for the delay in responding. Had a non-related problem to deal with which appears to have been a disagreement between an NV+ and a linkstation.
Before trying out the edit as suggested, can I double-check one detail. The "service" file I copied seems only to be a list of port allocations for all the services supported on the device, with nothing to do with switching services on or off.
Assuming this is still the correct file, does it matter where the DAAPD = 1 entry goes ?
I've only had this device working for a couple of weeks, and I don't want to rush into tweaks without some degree of understanding.
Many thanks,
John - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe file you want to edit is /etc/default/services
It should be full of lines showing whether services are enabled or disabled. - johntclintonAspirant

Thanks, mgdm.
Still struggling a bit here. When I try to copy that file, I get an error (no such file or directory).
There is a services file in the /etc directory, but this is a long list of port allocations (including 3689 for daap). Is this the file I should be trying to edit (I tend to think not) ?
I can change to the etc directory to list its contents, but I can not change to /etc/default
Thanks,

chirpa wrote: mdgm, time for you to make an addon that does this :P
I think you're right, that is the solution here.
Shouldn't be hard to write an add-on to do this - johntclintonAspirantOK - had a go, and this is what worked for me.
- followed instructions to open PuTTY command window
- I had to change to the "default directory" - cd /etc/default - otherwise I could not copy the file
- then copied file services to an accessible directory (cp services /wherever you want/filename)
- edited this file in Notepad++, being careful to save it as a general file type (I stuck with all files in the "save as" dialogue)
- from PuTTY, copied file back to NAS (cp /wherever you want/filename /etc/default/services
After reboot, I could log in to Firefly Media Service as described above.
For whatever reason, that worked for me whilst the earlier instructions failed to find the right services file to copy. No doubt due to ignorance on my part.
With reference to the /etc directory in my earlier reply, there is a services file there too, but it lists all the port allocations, so not the right target.
Hope this is of help to someone. Thanks to mgdm and StephenB for their prompts which led to a solution for me at least.
John
