Lost access to readynas 104
Hi, My readynas 104 has always worked! Since updating to 6.10.10 or possibly a version before it no longer connects. - Admin page doesn't load - Can't mount any shares. - Raidar finds the devic...

If I take all the disks out and factory wipe it, put the disks back in, will the unit see all the data as before? or will it have a default RAID mode and risk destroying my data?
I can't remember what RAID mode I used.
See attached for raidar screenshot.
No backups, it's too costly to backup 12TB storage!
Thanks

The data and config info is all on the disks. So no problems there. Do label the disks by slot as you remove them (and obviously be careful when handling them). Dropping one would be really bad.
The idea in doing the test is that it would tell us if the problem is with the disks or with the chassis..
A followup question - have you ever used the linux command line?

A 12 TB backup drive from Seagate or WD would cost around $250. If you need data recovery (which you might), then you will spend more than that, and still might not get back all your data.

I have never used liux command line in regards to readynas.
I've used linux years ago though.
I don't understand how it suddenly stopped working, I'm strongly feel it's update related.
OK, I just tried radiator again and it's mounted the data!!
I've run Diags:
"Successfully completed diagnostics
System
No errors found.
Logs
No errors found."I have no idea how it's suddenly working after 7 hours!!
What do you suggest I try next? I can't backup as I dont have anything large enough.
Should I downgrade the firmware version? Which version should I use?
Thanks

No, you should not downgrade the software. Given it was an intermittent issue, the problem is unlikely to be the firmware per se. But if the OS partition is close to full, it could be the update process that caused an issue, and the downgrade process could do so again.
As for your next step: back up your data, in case you are simply lucky that it did come up again,

NZ: Agreed, that is just inviting more trouble.
I suggest downloading the full log zip, as that likely has more clues on what happened. If you need help analyzing it, you can upload the full zip to cloud storage (dropbox, etc). Then send me a private message (PM) using the envelope link in the upper right hand side of the forum page. Make sure that permissions are set so anyone with the link can download.

NZ: RAID is useful, but simply isn't enough to keep your data safe. Ask yourself how much your data is worth to you. Likely it is worth a lot more than the cost of a backup drive.

If SSH is not enabled on system->settings->services, then I recommend doing that now. Check the box that enables password authentication. Ignore the Netgear warning on support - they won't give you support anymore anyway.
If something goes wrong again, likely you won't be able to enable it when that happens. It is also possible to use tech support mode, but it is useful to have the option of using ssh.

Thank you all.
Sandshark My storage is RAID5, 4.07TB used and 9.56TB Free. (The storage should actually be full but I've never gotten round to transferring the data from old storage!)
I see some options, shall I run a disk test or defrag?
I've now enabled SSH.
I downloaded the full log .zip and sent you a link in PM StephenB
