Lost permissions to ReadyNAS Duo

Hi

After my clean install of Mountain Lion on my iMac I lost permissions to both delete and add content on my ReadyNAS Duo (where my music collection is stored together with some other files).
Ye I understand how it could happen since I basically have a new computer now which the NAS wasn't set up for. Raidar still find the NAS and I have still access to the control panel.

So my question is: Are there any settings I can alter to regain control of the NAS? (From my MacBook Pro, which not been upgraded everything works normal, as before)

Would be very grateful for some useful help from some of all the clever people out there

Regards /Friss

  • Are you logging into the NAS with the same username/password on both the iMac and MacBook Pro?
  • Thanks for reply. That was not the case, but no change when I did that.

Before the upgrade the user name (admin) was the same for the two computers, but after upgrade I have another admin name for the "problematic" iMac.
I can log in to NAS with my old username which is the same as for the MacBook, which is still working, but again, no change. I also tried to log in with my new admin name from the
iMac but I still got this error message, something "Could not finnish the activity because you don't have right to open part of object..." (something like that, translated from Swedish)
  • I might be misunderstanding, but the username you use to login to your computers has no effect on the NAS. What matters is the username/password you type in when mounting the NAS. This username is setup on the NAS in Frontview under Security.

Well, yes and no. Windows PCs at least will present the windows login to the NAS by default, and if that logon succeeds you will not get a logon prompt. So it is common to coordinate the NAS username/password with the Windows one. Another option here is to use the Windows Credential Manager to set the credentials for the NAS logon.

You're my man! I always been logged on automatically before upgrading my iMac so I never really thought about what password I use. The strange thing is I seem to be able to use whatever login to get access to the NAS, play movie files etc. But I can't alter anything. Some kind of open guest login.

This was the last problem after my clean install to OS 10.8 and a swapped HD for a SSD. Now everything works flawlessly, and my old iMac (mid -07) is lightning fast.

Thanks for your time and knowledge!

    Cheers
  • I believe this is a Finder error problem for me I simply restarted my iMac or "account: show login window" let this login window appear momentarily 30 seconds, log back in under your user and the finder picks up the permissions when you login to the ReadyNAS AFP (ie admin / pswd).

After this I was able to save, delete directly to the ReadyNAS from any program like Pages, Numbers, Email, etc...

    Hope this helps. :)
