Making Time Machine work with the ReadyNAS

Has anyone figured out Levi's problem. I'm a newbie and trying to get TM to work with ReadyNAS via airport extreme. I've followed Levi's (and the original instructions) and am getting the error message that the "backup volume could not be mounted".
