Manually adding shares to new Volume.

Got my Seagate 8TB to add to my flexiraid0 on NAS V2+.
First time I put it in it detects it and readies it as 8TB and creates a new volume as H but whenever I try to add a share to H it won't let me select H even though H is on the list.
So I I take it out and reinsert it and this time it readies the 8TB as only 3TB as volume C and still won't let me add a share to C.

I'm thinking if I can get it to format it as a 8TB HDD I can manually add the share via SHH.(Putty)

I've add problems previously when adding a 4TB HDD where volume doesn't show up but I'm able to create a Share (which is still useable)

Any info on how to go about doing so would be much grateful. Linux newbie so commands would be much helpful. Not worried about the warranty since I'm already doing something that's not supported (adding a 8TB HDD) and have 2 HDD (4TB) that aren't officially supported but work.
Currently formatting the HDD in my computer in EX4 before putting into the NAS to see if it helps.

Did you already have volume C? I am wondering it ended up paired with any existing 3 TB drive (3 TB).

    What firmware are you running?
  • No. I had volumes D E F G originally with G volume not viewable from the frontend though I could share it from frontend wierdly enough.
I took out Volume E and then inserted the 8TB and It created volume H but I couldn't share.
I inserted it again and it created volume C but only with 3 TB.

Ah, the volumes should be called c, d, e and f.

I can try and fix this from the backend if you like.
  • sure ! I'd love any kind of assistance. Please PM me with the details of what I'd need to do.

Renamed volume g to volume f so that should now be working.

As for the new 8TB disk I just did a manual volume creation. Not sure how well this will work though.

Glad it's now working. It may work fine but we haven't tested 8TB disks in this model so you may find some unexpected things happen.

If you are going to store important data on this disk please make sure it's also stored elsewhere. No important data should be stored on just the one device, especially when you are using an unsupported configuration.
  • Update. MDGM was gracious in taking out his free time to help me with solving a problem which was all of my making. (Probably the fact I swapped around my HDD previously caused my volume information to be in a mess).

But for all those thinking of getting a 8TB SEAGTE on NV2+ it looks like it's compatible but I am using my raid as a media storage (flexiraid) but will update info if I see if there's problems with the 8TB seagate in the future for those in the same boat as I am. (Using their NAS as a media storage device and using 8TB HDDS)

I bought my 8tB seagate for $280AUS which is a bargain considering you can buy 4TB HDDs for $200.
