Migrating data from ReadyNAS Duo to 214

I'm in the process of replacing a ReadyNAS Duo with a 214 and wondered what's the best way to transfer the data? The Duo is still functioning and I realise that it's not a matter of transferring the physical disks.

Thanks in advance

  • I use rsync backup jobs myself.  Generally I set them up on the destination (rn214 in this case).  I use one per share partly because I often care which shares get done first.

If you use the duo's "private" shares, then it's best to copy them off (perhaps even drag-and-drop) and restore them the same way (accessing which each user account credentials).

If you use multiple NAS accounts, try and match the UID/GID numbers if you can.  You might need to reset permissions on the RN214.
