Mirror OS4 Shares to OS6 via eSata?
I am in the process of loading my new RN316 from an old Ultra-6 running OS4. Currently using a Windows utility called Beyond Compare to mirror the shares, but my LAN speed is not as wonderful as ...
Do you have a gigabit lan?
If not, adding a cheap gigabit switch to it (and perhaps a cheap gigabit network card to the PC, if required) to connect both NAS's and PC will give better throughput
Also, BeyondCompare will copy everything through the Windows PC.
You'll do better to set up a backup job on the OS6 system and pull the OS4 data directly (skipping the Windows middle man).
That is part of what I was trolling for: something that runs on the OS6 box to take out the Windows middleman.
Can you put a name on it so I can read up on it?
Or is is just "Backup" and part of The System?

I set up a backup job for each share... and they seem to be running OK.
It was so straightforward, I'm almost scared....wondering what I've messed up.... -)
Once I get the new box loaded and running for a week or so, I will convert the Ultra-6 to OS6, which would seem to raise the possibility of doing ReadyDR backups.
Do you ever use ReadyDR?
My ultimate agenda is to have two mirrored NAS boxes so that if one is destroyed/stolen/whatever; I can cut over to the other one more-or-less transparently.
