MKV showing as MPEG via DLNA

Hi, I purchased the Netgear NV+V2 NAS, I have copied a few MKV's and M2TS files to test it works via my Sony BDP 490, now the MKV files wont play, interestingly these files show up as MPEG on the blu-ray player via dlna, which makes no sense since its a MKV File.

Anyone else had this issue? 5.3.5 is the firmware version, I downgraded it when the MKV's didn't play.

Edit: I've just put the same mkv's on a external hard drive and connected them upto the blu-ray player directly and its showing up as MKV and plays fine. The same files play fine from my cheap D link DNS320 NAS.

  • Still waiting for Netgear to sort this, so far they have done nothing.
  • I thought ReadyDLNA *was* minidlna. So you should be able to download the latest from sourceforge and compile on your box. There is enough info around to show what you need to install via apt-get, if the binaries are not already available somewhere.

Hmm, well I'm not so sure I want to go ahead and do it myself without knowing exactly if it'll work or wreck something.

I'm still waiting for netgear support on this, nothing has happened in the last 3 months.

I certainly won't be buying Netgear products again, this is getting beyond a joke now. I should have kept my D-Link DNS 320's, had no issue's with them. :(
  • Thought I'd provide a update, netgear finally listened to me and have now escalated the request for applying the Fix.

"This is in reference with your request for the recompilation in your concern for the ReadyNAS NV+ v2. Please be informed, that your case is now escalated accordingly."
  • For anyone who's interested, Netgear finally released a addon which fixes this issue, I can now stream MKV's to my Sony Blu-ray player no problems what so ever.
