MP4 AVC question
Hi,
has anyone managed to play mp4 avc files via readydlna to any kind of player? My Philips TV set doesn't want to play anything in this format when offered up via the ReadyNAS, same file via the Windows Media Player DLNA feature works though.
So, I'd like to nail this down if it's an issue with minidlna...
Regards,
-Jan

- HERBIEOAspirantDoes your TV set recognise mp4? as some devices do not there is some good info about this in this link http://www.which.co.uk/technology/tv-and-dvd/guides/what-is-dlna/
- OLBJANAspirantAs I already said, yes the TV does MP4 just fine. Played with the Windows built-in DLNA server, just not via ReadyNAS.
- HERBIEOAspirantSorry missed that bit.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserWindows 7 DLNA transcodes media, while ReadyDLNA does not. So it is quite possible that the Philips doesn't support AVC (or possibly the aac codec).
- HERBIEOAspirantCould be worth trying a MKV with AVC and aac as a test.
- OLBJANAspirantWindows 7 DLNA is not transcoding anything on my machine (CPU too low). The Philips is capable of playing AVC/AAC just fine, the file plays when put on a USB stick and directly attached to the Philipls.
Of course, being able to play a directly attached file has no relation to the same capability via DLNA on the TV. Hence I'll test the MKV container with AAC.
-Jan - HERBIEOAspirantOLBJAN what was the results of testing MKV ?
- OLBJANAspirantJust completed the test. Same file, transcribed to MKV using mkvmerge plays perfectly. Video is MP4 AVC, audio is AAC.
-Jan - HERBIEOAspirantIt does not surprise me i get problems playing back mp4 on my media player, its supposed to play them but on playback they are distorted so i do the same strip the video and audio streams out with yamb, and merge them into mkv with mkvmerge, i think it must be how the mp4 wrapper is handled that cause's problems.
- OLBJANAspirantIt's only with mp4 avc files that I see this behavior from the ready as. Non-avc plays fine. Hence my thinking this is a readydlna issue.
