mysqld installed contains slimserver database

I was poking around my Pro 6 last night cleaning up some packages left over from some installations I had done. I noticed that mysql client and server is installed and I don't remember installing them. The mysql server was not running so I fired it up to see what databases were in it. The only one I see is "slimserver". Through some searching I have come to understand it is also known as Squeezebox or Squeezecenter. I don't see Squeezebox under Services > Streaming Services and can't find anything installed through the CLI.

My question is why this is there? Just a leftover from a previously supported feature on the ReadyNAS? Can I remove or should I just leave it? I don't really need mysql on my NAS. Although I guess if it's not running it's not hurting anything.

Thanks

  • As I recall the squeezebox server is an optional addon to the pro readynas ( and rackmount units ).
The mysql db has been replaced by sqlite in the new versions of squeezebox.

My question is why this is there?

It's left over from the days when Slimserver (later called SqueezeCenter, now called Logitech Media Server) used MySQL by default. Current versions of the software now use SQLite by default, but I guess Netgear never got around to removing the database.

It won't hurt anything to leave it in, especially if you don't run mysqld anyway.

[Edit: Sorry, markwoll. Somehow didn't see your response before I posted mine.]
  • Ok thanks for the information guys. I suppose leaving it won't hurt anything. And who knows maybe one day I will want to use mysql. I had an unrelated question, perhaps I should post in another forum but here goes.

I uninstalled a PHP addon and it left behind a package called php5-znedopcache that I can't seem to remove, upgrade or reinstall. I get the following:

    Setting up php5-zendopcache (7.0.2-0rnx5) ...
    ERROR: /etc/php5/mods-available/zendopcache.ini does not exist
    dpkg: error processing php5-zendopcache (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    php5-zendopcache
    E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Could the entire issue hinge on zendopcache.ini missing?
  • Ah, exactly what I did and it worked. Thanks super-poussin.

If I wanted to leave PHP5 and install cacti what cacti version should I use with a Pro 6 and latest RAIDiator? Is the default mysql install sufficient?
