NAS & ISCSI for home Vsphere lab
HI All,
I am looking to setup a home lab for VMware. I am just looking for the storage device which helps to configure ISCSI.
Can anyone please help me if this below model supports both NAS & ISCSI.
Netgear ReadyNAS 204 RN204-100NES 4-Bay Network Attached Storage

You can use iSCSI on a RN204 yes. Performance won't be amazing, but it should work enough.
That's the user manual (iSCSI page 95): http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/READYNAS_OS_6_SM_EN.pdf
If you want to build a big lab, you'll probably need a NAS with a bigger CPU, like RN314, RN424 or RN524X.
What VMware environment are you trying to build? How many hosts/datastores?

Thanks for your reply,
Performance is not a big issue I am planning it for a home lab ..:)
Does this box come with HDD or we need to purchase it separately?

Buying diskless and adding your own HDD(s) is cheaper. WDC Reds or Seagate Ironwolf drives are good choices for this NAS. I use WDC Reds myself.
Enterprise drives might give you somewhat better performance, but they will also run hotter. I don't recommend desktop drives (though some are on the HCL). Generally they don't support TLER. The HCL is here: https://kb.netgear.com/20641/ReadyNAS-Hard-Disk-Compatibility-List
If you don't need a lot of storage, you can use a 2.5" SATA SSD. The SSD choices on the HCL are dated, you probably will need to go with a model that isn't listed. If you are using JBOD that is likely ok.
If you purchase a system with the disks bundled, then if the disks fail under warranty you'd RMA them to Netgear instead of the disk manufacturer. That assumes the disks were bundled by Netgear, and not by the reseller.

- jak0lantashMentorWell, if you can find a reseller that has them. The RN214 is the newer version.
