Need help finding a bottle neck
Recently bought a diskless version of 3130 ReadyNAS. At this point I've only installed one drive (don't ask, more are on the way). The drives I'm putting in are 4TB WD Red Pro. I've updated to latest...
UPDATE
I wanted to eliminate the HD in the mac mini as the potential source. So I created a 4GB RAM disk on the Mac Mini and copied the same file there. I then copied the file from the RAM disk to the ReadyNAS AFP share. Essentially the same result 0:03:36.12.
Which firmware are you running?
Is the LUN thin/thick?
Is bit-rot protection enabled/disabled?
Do you have snapshots enabled?Are Sync Writes enabled/disabled?
Also, it would be useful to include read results, not just writes.
Maybe after you respond to mdgm's queries you could try a direct connect test?
Connect the ethernet cable directly between the NAS and the apple PC (no crossover is needed).
If the NAS is using dhcp, then it will default to 192.168.168.168. You'd need to temporarily set a compatible address on the Mac (for instance 192.168.168.100).
Then repeat the test (using IP addresses, not device names).
Well.... I think we can chalk this up to another PEBKAC / DSU issue. This morning while preparing to run the read tests that were asked for, I discovered that my wiring diagram was not quite correct. Turns out the Mac Mini was wired to the AirPort Extreme base station and not the switch next to the NAS. I corrected that and retested. I'm now moving 2.4GB in just under 24 seconds!! Much happier!
I have a 1GB switch next to the AirPort Extreme. It's showing an uplink speed of only 100MB. So I'm pretty sure its the AirPort extreme that is the bottle neck. Next thing to do would be to figure out why thats not 1GB as advertised but that's not anyone's problem here.
