Network share access - windows 8
I just went through the set up process on my new 102
there was an update of the firmware in the process. It's now 6.22
I can browse to the default shares via http readyclould
I can connect to the default shares via windows 7 - but not via windows 8
I log onto windows 8 using a MS online account
When I try to network browse to \\readynas I am prompted for password but neither admin or the user i created (matching the w7 user) work. I get a network error message
.. I can also see the readynas via dlna as a network place.
Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated

Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try and identify and resolve network problems, click diagnose.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDid you try entering \\NASIPaddress or just \\NASName?
- EskenderNGNETGEAR Employee RetiredHi,
Also you could try to connect to the ReadyNAS using RAIDar.
When you say that you use the “admin” account or the one you created matching the “w7 user” are you then talking about accounts on your Windows machine or on your ReadyNAS? In case you meant the former please try the ReadyNAS admin account for a test.
Bye,
Eskender - mowabiAspirantThanks for your replies.
@StephenB
I had only tried \\readnas but have now tried \\192.168.0.19
Same result... i get prompted for password twice, then error.
@EskenderNG
Yep, I have been trying the NAS admin and user..
Could this have anything to do with the MS "HOMEGROUP" feature?
My w8 machine is part of a home group. In the NAS https://192.168.0.19/admin/ -> Accounts -> Authntication, I have set the workgroup field to HOMEGROUP - mowabiAspirant@EskernderNG .. will RAIDar do something different to readycloud? eg.. more than just set up?
This page http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20684/~/readynas-downloads
Says that if I have os6 i should use readycloud - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIs HOMEGROUP also the workgroup name used by your Win7 PC? If not, then try setting the workgroup field to match your win7 workgroup. Also, you might try resetting permissions on a share (which will result in allowing full read/write guest access).
EskernderNG is not suggesting that you use RAIDar for setup. He just wants to know if RAIDar will find the NAS. RAIDar is a local tool that can discover your NAS and report some useful data. It won't tell you as much with OS6 as it does with OS4 or OS5, but it does work, and can be useful.
If you uninstall readycloud on the win8 system, are you able to access the shares locally? - mowabiAspirantH.. I don't really specify a workgroup name... it's the "homegroup" feature which i suspect hides that from you. All I get to do is join a "homegroup" and /or set a password
ReadyCloud isn't installed? I accessed it via a browser and went through the nas set up process in the browser
.. I will give the RAIDar install a try - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYour win7 system does have a workgroup (the default name likely is "workgroup"). If you right-click on Computer and click "properties" you'll see it at the bottom of the page (right above "windows activation). I'm not running win8, but you should see it there as well (maybe control panel->system).
On the NAS, the workgroup name is set under "accounts" - select the "authentication" page.
It's helpful to know that readycloud isn't installed (and better not to install it for now). - mowabiAspirantOK RAIDar can see the NAS. Not sure what else to check?
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserWell, I would set the NAS workgroup as described above.
Also, I would check that the Windows network type is set to "private" (or "home" in Win7, though that is working).
I would also try opening a command window (type "cmd" in the windows search bar) and enternet use * /delete
net use T: \\192.168.0.19 /user:admin
You should be prompted for a password, then enter the NAS admin password.
If it works, you should see a T: drive appear in computer. - mowabiAspiranthmm i tried to map T as described
It doesn't prompt for a password. I get an error:
System error 1790 has occurred
the network logon failed
I looked into error 1790... I see some stuff about webDav
