New NAS, securitymode = SHARE, can't accesss
I've got my new NV+ (RMA warranty replacement) running with a new XRAID using 4x 2TB RED drives.
I have it set in share security mode.
New shares I create can not be accessed from my Windows XP PC.
I get a login prompt with user Guest and no other user choices.
example 1:
I created a share Pictures.
I Setup a backup job to copy from NAS-01-35-39/Pictures to Pictures (on NAS-25-4E-E4) using rsync.
The backup job appears to have stalled |(it's been running since 26/12).
I have set up similar jobs for the shares PAul and Angie.
Those backup jobs did not fail and are running every night successfully.
So I suppose it may take more than 2 weeks to shift nearly 2TB of data with rsync.
Recap:
The source NAS-01-35-39 is in user security mode.
The destination NAS-25-4E-E4 is in share security mode.
When I try to open any of the new shares on the destination NAS, I get a user login dialog with only user Guest available.
The shares are on CIFS protocol with default access read/write.
The share Media on NAS-25-4E-E4 is accessible.
And the data copied from the media share on NAS-01-35-39 by backup job is correct.
I have it set in share security mode.

- Michael_OzLuminaryIf you look around here you will find a few users, including me, with recent share mode issues where Windows is asking for a password when the share *should* be open.
Nobody here seems to know why? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserHey, they took out Share mode for a reason... viewtopic.php?f=17&t=59335#p333633
You only see it because your older system is grandfathered in. If you ever do a factory reset, the mode will disappear. - Michael_OzLuminaryWell that wasn't mentioned anywhere, mine came with 4.1.9 already setup with Share mode and two shares (backup & media) and Frontview still configures it.
Are you saying that it has officially been unsupported, or just that they don't bother making it work (say when I u/g to 4.1.10)? - Michael_OzLuminaryAlso, what's going on with firmware?
I'm on 4.1.10 (Nv+ sparc), I just went looking to see whether I can downgrade, yet on the download page (http://www.readynas.com/?cat=41) it says the latest is 4.1.8??? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThat link says 4.1.10; I'm not seeing that. Anyway, old sparc releases are here: https://www.readynas.com/?cat=8
You no longer get share mode for new installs (or factory defaults). If you already have it enabled, then it remains. I'm not sure if that makes it "unsupported" or not. Though from the thread above, they ran into issues with newer versions of windows, and decided they needed to remove it. - Michael_OzLuminary
I removed the s from https thinking it may help a wider audience. https://www.readynas.com/?cat=41 only shows 4.1.8StephenB wrote: That link says 4.1.10; I'm not seeing that.
Thanks.StephenB wrote: Anyway, old sparc releases are here: https://www.readynas.com/?cat=8
Seems to be a few threads here where people have issues with XP, Vista & W7.StephenB wrote: You no longer get share mode for new installs (or factory defaults). Shares still there created with .9 & .10 still prompt for a password.
- smartwombatAspirantSo now I have to switch to user mode. Deprecated, if not unsupported.
Then I also have to set my users up the same across all 3 NAS.
Same users same groups, same passwords ?
So that my access to all is consistent.
Otherwise a backup from user Paul user 10001 on NAS1 to NAS2 if user Angie was 10001 would result in me not accessing the file.
Hm, maybe I should run an open source DC on a spare box.
Would that support Mac and PC clients?
