New ReadyNAS Duo user with slow Read/Write

I'm running 802.11g presumably 100.
I'm assuming the 'expected' IOmeter results are direct connect. My wi-fi results of ~4MB/s is much less that the ~30MB/s quoted.
I'm losing track of what I've disabled. I can't remember if I'd disabled the Virus scanner, Twonky server etc before I did the direct connect. May try again tomorrow but I'd rather not have to disable it in general use.
I set the IOMeter file up as per Han Solo's instructions using 256K sequential read write files and using a 2048000 sector maximum disk size.
