New ReadyNAS Firmware 5.3.8, is it any good?

Dear Forum Members

RAIDiator 5.3.8 (arm) is now available to download and install and Netgear recommends that you update your ReadyNAS asap. However, despite what Netgear itself says, I was wondering if users themselves have actually experienced any benefits from upgrading?

I have read that a couple of upgraders have had problems but no one yet has said they have gained anything new.

For info, my equipment is as follows;

WinXP Pro SP3 O/S,
2 x 640GB WD HD (C:\ & D:\ drives),
4GB Ram,
Gigabyte GA-H55M UD2H Motherboard
Thomson TG587n v2 modem-router

ReadyNAS Duo 2
2 x 2TB WD Caviar Green HD
RAIDar 4.3.4
Dashboard 1.0.0.264
RAIDiator 5.3.7

For those that have read my previous posts, my user access rights do not work properly:

Anyway, I'd like to hear from users who have gained from the upgrade to RAIDiator 5.3.8.

    Hi Ukbobby,
Did you select "Allow Anonymous access"?
Please don't select it if set permissions,
please select "Automatic permissions" when you set permissions.
  • Hi Evan

I have tried that option and it did not work but I'll try it again, just to make sure.

    Cheers.

    HI Ukbobby,
Could you open a support case?
I will let our support remote access to your system and check the problem.
    Thanks!
  • Hi again Evan

I have already been through the support process, my support number was 20056631, and in the end they had to admit that they could not help me.

I believe that there is a bug (or two) in the Dashboard GUI and in the RAIDiator 5.3.7 firmware, from my research I believed WinXP Pro SP3 O/S worked perfectly with Frontview, the first ReadyNAS GUI. However, since the release of the ReadyNAS Duo 2, which came with Dashboard and RAIDiator 5.3.7, changes were introduced by Netgear without proper testing.

And as a new customer, I was unaware of the problems until I bought my ReadyNAS Duo 2 and had to find out the hard way.

However, I am not too bitter because the ReadyNAS hardware is excellent but it has been royally let down by the software and firmware that came with it.
