New ReadyNAS nv+ v2 very slow connection
Hi all!
I am new to this NAS world.
the speed when copying file to nas is at ambit/s and ambit/s
I just got my new ReadyNAS NV+ RND4000 V2
I have installed 2 HDD's, have done the instalation as it says in the manual by using the program on the cd.
after that was done I logged in to the nas with my browser and gave the nas a static ip.
have not changed any other setting.
the hard drives are empty and the nas is set up as x-raid.
I am using a Netgear DG834PN Router.
when I stream a HD movie from my computer to my Blu-Ray player it's much smother than streaming from my NAS that is connected with cable but streaming from my computer with wi-fi
Pls anyone help me don't think a new product should be that slow
Some update.
I have reset the NAS to factory.
and did the default setting with the wizard and when that ahas done I tryed to copy a file to the nas from my MAC and the speed is very slow.

- WishAspirantHow slow?
Maybe you could try connecting your NAS directly to your mac via cable and then see if there as any speed change. - AvorillAspirantThe speed is about 1 - 2 mbit/s same on my windows PCM.
It's much faster when I copy from Mac to PC
Both computers are connected with wifi.
Why connect the nas directly to the Mac when the nas was made to use on a network. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired1 -2 Mbit/s sounds O.K. For wireless G if that's what you're using. A faster wireless connection or a connection via a wired ethernet connection would lead to improved performance.
- AvorillAspirantHow can it be so slow when I copy file from my Mac to my PC and both are using wifi G.
and the speed I get when copy file from computer to computer with the wifi and no computer are wired and I get the speed about
10 to 20 mbit/s.
and it's almost impossible to stream HD media from the nas to the blu-ray but no problem streaming from computer to the blu-ray and the blu-ray is wifi connected too.
I even get more speed from the internet to my mac when downloading so how can it be that the nas is slower than my internet. (ADSL 2+) - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredOops. I was thinking of 1MB/s. 2-3 MB/s (20-30 Mbit/s) would be optimal speeds over wireless G. 1 Mbit/s is slow.
Can you try a connection via ethernet and see what speeds you get to help isolate the cause of the issue? - AvorillAspirantI have donw the test with cable.
PC --> Router --> NAS 10 MB/seconds (not (wifi)
PC --> NAS 25 to 30 MB/seconds
tested with 3 ethernet cables, same results - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredO.K. So your router is a 100 Mbit router with wireless G. As your PC has a gigabit NIC you get faster speeds transferring files directly.
Looks like your router is EOL: http://support.netgear.com/product/DG834PN
It's possible support may have some tips for settings you could try changing. You could give support a call regarding your NV+ v2 and post your case number. If over 90 days since purchase create an online case rather than giving support a call.
You could also consider doing the following:
1. Buy a new router to replace the DG834PN
2. Connect a new router via ethernet to your existing router to bridge your network connection. If this router is a gigabit one you could connect the NAS to that. Then when you want to (e.g. to transfer lots of data) you could simply connect your PC to this router via ethernet to get gigabit speeds. - AvorillAspirantI got the nas for about 2 days a go.
But I still think its strange when I get faster sped when copy file from PCM to PCM via wifi
What is EOL? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYour router is EOL, not the NAS. Give NetGear a call about the NAS. There may be some known issues with this router and the NAS.
