NV+ -> Selecting a "backup source" clarification [SOLVED]
Hello. First some background to give context.
A few days ago when I attempted to access my ReadyNAS NV+ (v1) from Windows Vista via the mapped network drive I had set to the "C" share on the ReadyNAS, there was a long pause and then a "the local device name is already in use" message from Explorer.
I tried to open Frontview, but my web-browser wouldn't get any further than showing a "connected" message in the statusbar. Finally I gave up, and pressed the front mounted blue-LED button for 5 seconds, and the device powered off after about about a minute or so. When I pressed the button again to turn it back on, everything worked fine, but I had a warning in Frontview:
I've just received a replacement hard disk for this apparently failing unit, but I want to make sure I have a full back-up of all data on the ReadyNAS before swapping it for the existing "drive 1" (of 2 - see Frontview details at the end of this message).
I have a 1TB Seagate external USB hard disk which I use for (incremental) backups from the ReadyNAS. At present I have one backup job configured. The source is set to "Volume: c" the destination is set to "Share: USB_HDD_1", and the schedule is "Perform backup every 24hrs" with "Full backup" set to "First time".
I've just noticed that some recently added files (coped to the ReadyNAS 2 days ago) are *not* on the external hard disk. I'm a bit perplexed about this. So I have two questions:
1) I don't know how to account for the missing files (on the external hard disk), but I've read a few threads where people have reported similar issues in the past (viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36973, viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60036), so perhaps I need to change my settings. But I want to make absolutely certain I'm choosing the right options here keeping in mind the unnerving warnings about what would happen if I got source and destination confused.
I'm thinking about modifying source from "Volume: c" to "Remote: Windows/Nas (Timestamp)" - but this doesn't look quite right to me? Is "Remote: Windows/Nas" my ReadyNAS device or is it talking about backing up from a Windows machine *to* the ReadyNAS?
I want to backup absolutely everything on the ReadyNAS, so "Volume: c" seemed the most logical option before, but if this isn't working reliably (for whatever reason - possibly user error, but I don't know where I'm going wrong if this is so) I need an alternative.
2) I want to schedule a second backup job which would be a "Full backup", and would also "Remove the contents of the backup destination before a full backup is performed" to occur every 4 weeks (and I would also manually set it to run as soon as possible prior to inserting the replacement hard disk). Again, I would appreciate advice about which "source" to select for this, bearing in mind that I want to backup all data on the ReadyNAS - presumably this would need to match the "source" selected for the incremental backup job so that the incremental backups would co-operate with it (by which I mean, once a Full backup had run, the second every-24hrs-backup would recognise that it only needed to copy recently modified/added files).
Also, is there any possibility of these two backup jobs tripping over each other? I'm sure this has been accounted for, and I suppose I could stagger the times to try to prevent them from running concurrently, but is there any problem that might occur if - say - the incremental backup started *while* the Full backup was in progress?
Sorry for the long-winded message, I'd be very grateful for any advice and suggestions.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserOn (1) setting the source to remote:Windows/NAS (Timestamp) would require you to set the source IP address to your local NAS. It is an odd setting to try, I am wondering why you think think it might help.
I think the problem could be due to a permissions issue - maybe try the advanced options page on the folder which contains the not backed up files, and try resetting the owner and permissions.
On (2) a more direct way to accomplish your goal is to change the "full backup" setting from "first time" to "every four weeks". - MInDevAspirantHi StephenB, thanks very much for the reply.
With regards to (1), mainly because of what was said in the two threads I linked to, the forum members in those discussions both pointed to "Remote: Windows/Nas (Timestamp)" as a solution to the same issue, so I thought this sounded promising.
Ah, but this is excruciatingly embarrassing. I hadn't set the backup to run on Saturday night. The files have no appeared following Sunday night's backup. User error indeed. So, this is a non-issue now and I'm suitably reassured.
About 2 - yes, that sounds sensible, I shall do this. Thank you again, an apologies for wasting time.
